Budget carpet cleaning companies are ruining carpets up and down the country. The following is a true story...
The recession has hit everyone to varying degrees and sadly the husband of one of my customers lost his job recently. Since it had been about a year since I saw them last they desperately wanted their carpets cleaning. As money was tight they wanted to try and save some money, so when they got a flyer through the door from a carpet cleaning business advertising 2 rooms for £8 (perhaps you got one too?) they thought they would go for it. After all, what did they have to lose? If it's bad then they have only lost £8; right?
Unfortunately for my customer the carpet cleaning company involved didn't recognise that the carpet was made from Jute, a very eco-product that costs a small fortune but cannot be wet or dry cleaned because of staining marks left by any kind of moisture, and the huge potential for shrinkage. These guys turned up, threw water everywhere, and left … and the carpets lost at least 8 inches round the edges and now look totally horrible. She has tried to call the company to complain, but, guess what, they are simply not interested. For £8, why would they even think about returning? When she called me and asked me to highlight this problem I explained to her that this practice was called "Splash and Dash" and was a common tactic used by budget carpet cleaning companies, not just in Dorset but throughout the UK.
