Professional carpet cleaning starts with a proper understanding of your carpets!
As carpet cleaners offering professional carpet cleaning services, we go to great lengths to understand carpets and identify the type of carpets we are dealing with. We are based in Poole, near Bournemouth but will happily bring our carpet cleaning services to you throughout Dorset and surrounding areas.
The following is a useful guide we have prepared about different carpet types.
Polyamide (or nylon) carpet is the most wear-resistant and durable fibre available. It carries colour brilliantly, is soft to the touch and feels great underfoot. These products are dyed and may stain. Our tried and tested protection treatment at Great Choice will give them unprecedented resistance however. This fibre also responds extremely well to treatment by professional carpet cleaners. DO NOT use off the shelf stain removers or related products on polyamide carpets as these are likely to have an irretrievable bleaching effect.
Polypropylene (or Olefin) is the cheapest and most popular man made carpet fibre today. It is strong, highly resistant to stains and fading and does not react badly to moisture. A short pile cut or looped carpet will stay looking great for many years. However, when compared to Nylon or wool it has a lower wear resistance: in deep pile form it can be susceptible to flattening and losing its texture over time. One of the most appealing properties of Polypropylene carpets is that they are colourfast. The colour is in the body of the carpet material so even as the material wears, the colour remains the same intensity.
Wool and wool blends have the ideal properties that most other carpet fibres have been designed to copy. A pure wool carpet adds a stylish quality to any indoor environment. It is of course, also one of the most expensive types of carpet you can buy. A good quality wool carpet has a rich appearance and feels very cosy underfoot, Fatastically durable, a good wool keeps it's looks over a long, rugged life. Stain resistance is also good. Because wool is a natural fibre and the dyes used are from organic origins, some fading can occur, especially when exposed to direct sunlight. Maintenance needs to be performed regularly to keep the wool or wool mix carpet looking at it's best at all time. That means carpet cleaning and protecting (and steering clear of off the shelf carpet cleaner products), It's worth noting that a wool carpet may not be suitable for every environment. Our carpet cleaning and carpet selection advice is FREE so call us to find out if a wool carpet is right for you BEFORE you buy one.
Give your carpet the best chance of a long life
Don't bring dirt in from outside. Keep a good quality doormat at each entrance.
Wipe your shoes well when you come in. Even better... why not implement a "shoes off" policy to keep your carpets in top condition longer.
Use mats and runners in areas that get a lot of traffic. Change the layout of your room occasionally to spread the load and reduce excessive wear.
Vacuum regularly. No, regularly. And often. Vacuum a lot!
Clean up liquid spills quickly - every second counts - see Stain Removal Procedure.
Wine, spaghetti bolognese, gravy, marmalade, butter, motor oil, paint, solvents - any substance that will damage and stain - just keep them away! And should the worst happen, call on professional carpet cleaners!
